Eczema & Dermatitis Treatment

Eczema and dermatitis are inflammatory skin conditions that leave skin itchy, dry, cracked and easily irritated. Our dermatologists calm the active flare with proper prescription treatment, repair the skin barrier underneath, and then build a prevention plan around your own triggers, for children and adults.

What it is

Understanding Eczema & Dermatitis

Eczema is a barrier problem as much as an inflammation problem. When the skin barrier leaks moisture and lets irritants in, the immune system reacts, and the itch-scratch cycle keeps the flare alive. Contact dermatitis works the same way but is triggered by something specific your skin is meeting, which is why identifying the trigger matters as much as the cream.

Signs we treat

Come in if you recognise any of these

  • Recurring itchy patches on the hands, arms, neck or behind the knees
  • Children who scratch through the night
  • Hand dermatitis from soaps, detergents or work exposure
  • Skin that stings and reacts to most products
  • Flares that keep returning after the cream is stopped
How we treat it

Your plan, step by step

1

Diagnosis and trigger mapping

We separate atopic eczema from contact dermatitis and other look-alike conditions, and work out what is setting yours off.

2

Calm the active flare

A prescribed plan settles inflammation quickly, with the right strength for the right area and a clear stopping point.

3

Repair the barrier

Emollient and barrier care that suits Pakistani weather and your daily routine, not a generic moisturiser list.

4

Trigger control

Practical changes to soaps, fabrics, water temperature and workplace exposure that keep flares from restarting.

5

A written flare plan

You leave knowing exactly what to do at the first sign of a flare, rather than waiting for it to become severe.

FAQs

Eczema & Dermatitis, answered honestly

Can eczema be cured?
Eczema is managed rather than cured, but managed well most patients enjoy long, comfortable, flare-free periods. Many children outgrow it. The goal is control: fewer flares, milder flares and faster recovery.
Are steroid creams safe?
Used correctly, meaning the right strength on the right area for the right duration under dermatologist guidance, they are safe and highly effective. Problems come from unsupervised long-term use, so we plan exactly how to use them and how to step off.
Is eczema contagious?
No. It is not an infection and cannot be passed to anyone else, including children sharing a bed or a towel.
Why does my eczema get worse in winter?
Cold air and indoor heating pull moisture out of skin, and hot showers strip it further. Most people need a heavier barrier routine in winter and a lighter one in summer.
Can food cause eczema?
In a minority of children, yes, and it is worth investigating properly rather than removing foods on guesswork. In most adults, contact triggers and barrier damage matter far more than diet.
My child has eczema. Is treatment different?
The principles are the same but strengths, areas and durations are adjusted for children, and we spend more time on bathing, clothing and sleep, because the scratching at night is usually what parents need solved first.
