What it is

Understanding Skin Tag Removal

A skin tag (doctors call it an acrochordon) is a small, soft outgrowth of normal skin that usually sits on a narrow stalk. They form where skin rubs against skin or clothing, so the neck, underarms, eyelids, groin and the skin under the breasts are the usual sites. Pakistani summers make this worse: heat, sweat and constant friction from collars, straps and waistbands all feed the process. Tags are benign and they are not contagious. They become a medical matter when they bleed, catch and tear, sit awkwardly near the eye, or when a growth that looks like a tag turns out to be something else entirely.

Every lesion is examined before anything is removed

The doctor looks at each growth closely, using a dermatoscope where it helps, to confirm it is genuinely a skin tag and not a mole, a wart, a seborrhoeic keratosis or something that needs a different route entirely. This is the step a salon or a home remedy cannot do, and it is the real reason this belongs in a clinic.

Choosing the method that suits the site

The method is matched to the lesion rather than the other way around. Depending on size, number and location, that may be fine scissor excision, radiofrequency or cautery, or cryotherapy. Can I remove a skin tag at home with thread or a blade?

Friction, weight gain, pregnancy, insulin resistance and diabetes all make new ones more likely.
