A mole is a cluster of pigment cells in the skin. Most are completely harmless and stay the same for years. Some sit where they rub and catch, some change over time, and a small number need medical attention. Mole removal at Venus Aesthetics is a minor procedure performed by a doctor under local anaesthetic. Depending on what the mole is and where it sits, it may be shaved flush with the skin, treated with radiofrequency, or excised fully and closed with fine stitches. The examination always comes first, and the method of removal is decided after it, never before.

Dermatology consultation and examination

Your appointment starts with the doctor taking a short history: how long the mole has been there, whether it has changed, whether it bleeds or catches, and whether anyone in the family has had skin cancer. The doctor then examines the mole closely, using dermoscopy where it helps, and looks at your other moles too, not only the one you came in for. A medical decision before a cosmetic one

The examination decides everything that follows. If the mole looks entirely ordinary, removal becomes a simple cosmetic choice and you decide whether you want it gone. If it has features that need a closer answer, the doctor will recommend removing it in a way that keeps the tissue intact so it can be examined in a laboratory. This is the difference between a clinic and a salon, and it is not a step we skip or shorten.

Choosing the right removal method

Moles are not all removed the same way. A small raised mole on the face may be shaved flush with the skin or treated with radiofrequency. A flat pigmented mole, or any mole that needs testing, is usually excised fully and closed with fine stitches. Your doctor explains which method suits your mole, what mark it is likely to leave, how long healing takes and what it will cost, before you agree to anything.

The procedure in clinic

The area is cleaned and numbed with local anaesthetic, so you are awake and comfortable throughout. The removal itself usually takes only a few minutes for a single mole. You go home the same day with the site dressed and clear written aftercare. Most people return to normal routine straight away, with limits on sweating, swimming and gym while the wound closes.

Laboratory examination when it is indicated

If the doctor has any concern, or if the mole simply warrants confirmation, the removed tissue is sent for histopathology and you are told this in advance. The report is discussed with you at review. The large majority of these reports come back completely benign, and having the answer on paper is better than assuming. If a report ever shows something that needs further treatment, your doctor explains the next step and arranges onward care.

Healing, review and care of the mark

You come back for a review, and for stitch removal if stitches were used. Early healing skin darkens easily in our sun, so once the wound has closed the doctor will put you on daily sunscreen over the site and may suggest silicone gel or other scar care. Pigmentation at the site usually settles over months. Your doctor will tell you honestly what the final mark is likely to look like for your skin.

Does mole removal hurt?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic before anything is done, so you feel pressure and movement rather than pain. The numbing injection itself stings for a few seconds. Most people sit through the procedure comfortably and drive home afterwards. The site can feel tender for a day or two as the anaesthetic wears off, and your doctor will tell you what pain relief is suitable if you need any.

Will mole removal leave a scar?

Honestly, yes. Any removal leaves some mark, so the question is how visible it stays. That depends on the size and depth of the mole, where it sits, your skin type and how well you protect the site afterwards. Brown skin tends to darken at a healing wound before it settles, which is why sun protection matters so much here. Your doctor will describe the likely mark for your specific mole first.

How do I know if a mole is dangerous?

Watch for change. A mole that grows, changes shape or colour, develops an uneven border, bleeds, itches, crusts or refuses to heal deserves a proper look. So does a mole that looks clearly different from all your others, and any new mole appearing later in adult life. Most of these turn out to be harmless. Deciding which ones are is a doctor's job, not something to judge at home.

Can a mole grow back after it is removed?

It can. Surface methods such as shaving, cautery or laser remove the visible part, and if pigment cells remain deeper in the skin, the mole can slowly reappear over months or years. Full excision removes the lesion through its depth and recurs far less often. Neither approach is wrong, they suit different moles. Your doctor will tell you which method fits yours and what the chance of return is.

Are mole removal creams and home remedies safe?

No. Creams, acid pastes, thread tying and salon cautery destroy tissue without anyone knowing what that tissue was. They commonly cause burns, infection and a worse mark than the original mole, and they make later assessment harder. The real danger is that a lesion which needed laboratory testing is gone before any doctor examined it. Have it looked at first, then decide how to remove it.

How long does healing take, and what care is needed?

Small sites usually settle within about two weeks, and stitched wounds are reviewed and the stitches removed on the date your doctor sets. Keep the area clean and dry exactly as instructed, do not pick at the crust, and avoid swimming, gym and heavy sweating while it closes. Once healed, use sunscreen on the site every day. Pakistani sun will darken a fresh scar quickly if it is left uncovered.

Is laser mole removal better than surgical removal?

Neither is better in every case. Laser and radiofrequency are neat for small raised moles on the face and heal quickly, but they vaporise the tissue, so nothing remains that can be sent to a laboratory. Surgical excision leaves a fine line and keeps the whole lesion intact for examination. That is precisely why the doctor assesses the mole before choosing a method, rather than the other way round.
